I believe so, I don't find it necessary to submerge mine though. I tilt it in the sink with socket side down, so water runs over it. I think drip dry it socket side down so water doesn't sit in there, it can drain out. I haven't had any issues with mine. We love using this griddle. It heats up quickly, and makes beautiful pancakes and grilled cheese sandwiches. I'm also able to make twice as much as I would using a standard large skillet.
